3 / 5

Ninja makes two kinds of espresso machine. The Luxe Café range is guided semi-automatic: a burr grinder sits over a scale, you lock in a portafilter, and after every shot the machine suggests how to change the grind. The full-size Premier and Pro add drip coffee, cold brew and a whisk-and-steam frother; the compact Mini and Mini Plus keep the guidance in a body about a third smaller. The AutoBarista Pro is Ninja's first fully automatic machine, with two swappable bean hoppers and a grinder that calibrates itself. Across the range, hands-on testers found Ninja's guidance gets beginners to good espresso quickly; where they disagree is milk temperature, and on the AutoBarista, the espresso itself.

Cold brew and cold foam are only on the full-size Luxe Café Premier and Pro. The standard AutoBarista has no independent hands-on review yet, so it is not in this chooser.

  • Grind suggestions after every shot
  • Hot or iced drip coffee in mug sizes
  • About 31 cm wide and 26 cm deep

The Luxe Café's grinder, scale and guidance in a much smaller body, with drip coffee testers rated perfect. Espresso volume varied in testing, the milk is manual, and the cold drinks and hot water are gone. One full review so far.

  • Automatic steam wand with a probe in the tip
  • Three hot froth presets
  • Fold-away cup tray
  • Still no cold brew, cold foam or hot water

The compact Luxe Café with an automatic, probe-controlled steam wand and accurate long drinks. The auto froth varied a lot in the one US test, the tank is small, and there are no cold drinks or hot water. Early evidence only.

What it adds over the Minis

  • Whisk-and-steam frother with cold foam
  • Cold brew and cold-pressed espresso
  • Drip coffee up to 18 ounces
  • The deepest hands-on record in the range

Good, consistent espresso with almost no skill, very consistent dosing, and drip coffee, cold brew and cold foam that testers rated. Grind guidance can over-correct, auto milk runs hot, and the US model lacks hot water and a single basket.

Step 4 · Lever tamper and hot water

Ninja Luxe Café Pro Series (ES701)

Choose it if you want the Premier plus hot water, single shots and a built-in tamping lever.

What it adds over the Premier

  • Integrated lever tamper
  • Separate hot water outlet
  • Single basket, ristretto and lungo
  • XL jug and a cool-touch steam wand

The better Luxe Café: the lever tamper, hot water and single basket fix the Premier's gaps, and its cold brew and cold foam lead the class. Medium and dark roasts only, milk temperature wanders on auto, and the premium is worth it mainly for the lever and hot water.

Step 5 · Push-button, two hoppers

Ninja AutoBarista Pro (AE1051)

What changes

  • Grinds, doses, tamps and brews at a press
  • Two swappable hoppers, none left in the grinder
  • Grinder that calibrates itself with test shots
  • Milk frothed in a jug that you pour

Two swappable hoppers with nothing left in the grinder, a strong steam wand and easy maintenance. Testers split on the espresso, shot volumes ran long, calibration uses a lot of beans and water, and you still pour the milk yourself.

Ninja's US product pages print the shipping box as the size of the Premier and Pro, and list the Premier at 0.06 lb, so their sizes come from reviewers' measurements (Premier) and Amazon's product data (Pro). The Minis and the AutoBarista Pro use Ninja's own figures, which reviewers matched.

Reading a Ninja listing: Barista Assist, hands-free, cold brew

Ninja's listings use phrases that mean less, or something different, than they suggest. Here is what each one turned out to be in the manuals and the hands-on evidence.

The listing says

Barista Assist Technology

Luxe Café rangeWhat it is

A scale under the grinder and a grind suggestion after each shot, based on how long the shot ran. CoffeeGeek concluded the dose is set by grind time and checked by weight. It can over-correct, and you can switch it off.

The listing says

Weight-based dosing

Luxe Café range · AutoBaristaWhat it is

The grounds are weighed, and testers measured very consistent doses of about 17.5 to 18 g for a double. You cannot change the dose on the Luxe Café.

The listing says

Hands-free froth

Luxe Café Premier and Pro · AutoBaristaWhat it is

The milk froths and stops by itself in its jug, but you pour it into the drink. No Ninja here froths straight into the cup.

The listing says

Cold brew

Luxe Café Premier and Pro · AutoBaristaWhat it is

A slow, low-pressure brew in minutes, not an overnight steep. Testers rated the Luxe Café's highly; the AutoBarista's came out warm, about 36 °C before ice in one test.

The listing says

Auto frother

Mini ES301 (Ninja's product page)What it is

The Mini has a manual steam wand. The automatic wand is on the Mini Plus ES351.

The listing says

15-bar system tuned to 9-bar pressure

AutoBaristaWhat it is

Ninja's own claim; no reviewer measured it. Ninja publishes no pump figure at all for the Luxe Café, and reviewers' tables disagree.

The listing says

13 drinks

AutoBarista ProWhat it is

Reviewers count 12 coffee drinks; hot water makes the thirteenth.

Is Ninja a good espresso machine brand?

Ninja is a SharkNinja brand best known for blenders and air fryers, and espresso is a recent line for it. The Luxe Café Premier launched in the US in July 2024, the Pro followed in spring 2025, the compact Mini and Mini Plus arrived in summer 2026, and the AutoBarista, Ninja's first fully automatic machine, launched in May 2026. Ninja's Amazon listing for the Premier cites Circana retail tracking for the claim that it was the best-selling espresso maker of 2025 by dollar sales, to late September.

The evidence is strongest for the Premier and Pro, which collected more than a dozen hands-on reviews, including CoffeeGeek's 233 recorded shots. Testers consistently found the guidance gets beginners to good espresso and rated the cold brew and cold foam highly; the recurring complaints are milk temperature, water use and medium-to-dark roasts only. The Minis have one or two reviews each, and the AutoBarista Pro split testers on espresso. No model has multi-year reliability data yet.

Ninja's US warranty is one year on every machine here, shorter than many rivals, and Ninja charges a shipping fee to return a repaired or replacement unit. We found no safety recall for any Ninja coffee or espresso machine in the US Consumer Product Safety Commission database; SharkNinja's recalls there concern a pressure cooker and a blender.

Descaling and cleaning a Ninja espresso machine

Every Ninja espresso machine tells you when it needs attention, and testing your water hardness at setup is what makes the prompts accurate.

All of them use water generously and fill their drip trays quickly, so most testers emptied the tray and topped up the tank every morning. Our Luxe Café troubleshooting guide covers resets, leaks and error lights.

For Ninja

Send us a Ninja machine to consider for hands‑on testing

All 5 reviews on this page are built from published evidence: Ninja's own specifications and listings, checked against independent reviews, rather than from our own testing. That leaves gaps desk research cannot close: long-term reliability, how a machine behaves after months of daily use, and details no reviewer has measured.

Hands-on testing is how those gaps close. If you represent Ninja, we welcome review units of the models on this page and of new models as they launch. Every unit we receive is considered for hands-on testing. Where a unit does inform a review, that review says so and names you as the supplier.

  • No outcome is promised. A unit does not guarantee hands-on testing, a review, a recommendation or an award.
  • No advance sight. Findings are not shared with you before they are published.
  • Kept, donated or recycled, never sold. Ask within 90 days of delivery, or of a review that used the unit, and we return it at your expense.
  • Always disclosed. Every page that draws on a supplied unit says so, in line with FTC endorsement guidelines.

Ninja FAQ

Which Ninja espresso machine is best?

For most people, the Luxe Café Premier: guided espresso, automatic milk, drip coffee and cold brew, with the deepest hands-on record. The Pro is worth the step up if you want hot water, single shots and the lever tamper. None of the 5 machines here holds a CoffeeLab award.

Is a Ninja espresso machine good for beginners?

Yes, the Luxe Café range is built for beginners. The grinder sits over a scale, an assisted tamper presses the puck, and after each shot the machine suggests a grind change, which testers found gets newcomers to good espresso quickly. Expect a few wasted shots when the guidance over-corrects.

Ninja Luxe Café or Breville Barista Express?

The Luxe Café guides you and adds drip coffee and cold brew; the Barista Express gives an experienced user more control and has a far longer ownership record. Our Luxe Café vs Barista Express guide works through the choice.

What is the difference between the Ninja Luxe Café Premier and Pro?

The Pro adds a built-in lever tamper, separate hot water, a single basket, ristretto and lungo presets, a fifth froth setting and a cool-touch wand. The grinder, scale and cold brew are the same. See our Premier vs Pro guide.

Is the Ninja AutoBarista a good fully automatic machine?

It splits testers. Its two swappable hoppers, strong steam wand and easy maintenance are well liked, but espresso quality divided eight full reviews and shot volumes often ran long. You also pour the frothed milk yourself. Read our AutoBarista Pro review.

What warranty do Ninja espresso machines have?

One year in the US on every model here, from purchase from an authorised retailer, for the original owner. Ninja may repair or replace the machine with a new or refurbished unit and charges a shipping fee to return it. Two-year figures in some reviews reflect Ninja's UK terms.
