COFFEELAB AWARDS 2026 · VENUE
Winner Arsaga's Coffee Roasters
CLA-FAY-2026-AC01Downtown, off the square, 200 W Center St, Fayetteville, AR 72701 · Arsaga's operates four sites in Fayetteville: Church & Center, evaluated here; Carsaga's Drive-Thru on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; a café in the Fayetteville Public Library; and a café in the University of Arkansas law library. The Mill District restaurant closed in October 2025. This award evaluates Church & Center; the other sites are named so the scope is unambiguous.
CoffeeLabAdvisor's Best Coffee Shop award is an evidence-led editorial selection under a published methodology — not a blind tasting or a sensory ranking. It names the venue with the strongest documented evidence under that methodology, scored across six equal dimensions. On that basis, Arsaga's Coffee Roasters — Church & Center, the company's coffee and toast bar at 200 W Center St just off the downtown square, receives this award. The company was founded in Fayetteville in 1992 by Cary and Cindy Arsaga, who still own it; it roasts its own coffee at a separate warehouse roastery in the city on a Diedrich drum roaster, names its chief roaster and its green-coffee buyer, and lists single-origin coffees by country, region and, for some, farm. What sets this venue apart on the evidence is its own published menu: two house-made plant milks — coconut-cashew and oat — offered at no charge to substitute, boxed as a special on the menu, and prices at or below the Fayetteville median on every line we captured, with espresso at $3.50, an eight-ounce latte at $4.25 and drip at $3.00. This was a close decision, and it should be read with two facts beside it. Arsaga's holds no cup-judged coffee result of any kind, and we say so. The strongest cup-judged record in this evaluation belongs to Onyx Coffee Lab — Good Food Awards coffee wins, each for a single lot, and a co-owner who is the 2020 United States Barista Champion — and its Gregg Avenue café is recognised as an Honorable Mention, as is Doomsday Coffee & Roasterie, which roasts at the address it serves from. Two of the six dimensions are scored from what a venue's own menu documents; Arsaga's leads on those two, and on the four evidence dimensions it does not hold the strongest file. The two menu dimensions were placed by an independent reviewer who was shown six Fayetteville menus with no names and no sight of our reasoning, and whose placements we adopted as given. Evidence scores measure the strength of documented evidence available for evaluation; they are not sensory scores, inspection scores, or direct measurements of current coffee quality. CoffeeLabAdvisor evaluated thirteen Fayetteville coffee businesses under its published coffee shop methodology, captured every finalist's menu from its own sources, and carried one venue through to a published six-dimension scorecard. We do not publish comparative scores for the rest of the field.
200 W Center St, Fayetteville, AR 72701 — the company's coffee and toast bar at 200 W Center St, just off the downtown square — "a toast and coffee bar just off the square in downtown Fayetteville," in its own words. This award evaluates this one venue; the company's drive-thru and its two library cafés are named on this page, and its Mill District restaurant closed in October 2025.
A roaster-owned bar serving its own coffee: single origins and blends roasted by the same company at its Fayetteville warehouse roastery on a Diedrich gas-heated drum. The menu offers two espressos served side by side, a nitro coffee on tap made from a named single-origin lot, and syrups and sauces made in-house; the drinks list is priced at or below the local median on every line we captured, and its two house-made plant milks substitute at no charge.
Our flagship city award. An editorial selection: the independent coffee shop in the city that our documented-evidence screening selected for full scoring, carried through to a six-dimension scorecard. The rest of the field is screened but not scored, so the award is not a ranking of the city. The award level (Gold/Silver/Bronze) is an absolute score on that shop against the published rubric, not a placing against other businesses. This is an evidence-led editorial award, not a blind tasting or citywide sensory ranking: we do not score every eligible shop, and no claim is made that a winner would defeat every other shop in its city in a head-to-head tasting.
Silver (88/100) — the tier follows the score: six equal-weighted dimensions totalling 525, averaging 87.50, rounded to 88 against a Gold threshold of 90. Every figure on this page is a documentary-evidence score, not a sensory rating, and every score cites its evidence band — with each underlying fact scoring exactly once. Coffee Quality (85) sits in the own-evidence band (82–92): the company roasts its own coffee on named equipment and serves two espressos side by side, but holds no cup-judged result from any recognised body in the lists we opened, and no specialist writer's assessment of this venue could be captured; the band cannot be exceeded without one of those. Sourcing & Transparency (84) is mid-band in the own-materials band (80–88): coffees are listed by country, region and for some by farm, and a green-coffee buyer is named, with no importer named and no lot-level data published. Barista & Ownership (88) rests on documented founder ownership — Cary and Cindy Arsaga, co-founder owners since 1992, "a small, family-owned business" in the company's words — with no competition record identified for any member of staff. Operational Consistency (88) rests on a thirty-four-year company record in one city documented by the regional press, four sites operating with published hours, and a downtown venue whose own opening date the company does not publish; company continuity is documented and venue continuity is not, and the score says so. Plant-Based Milk (92) and Value (88) are scored from the venue's own published menu — two house-made plant milks at no charge to substitute; espresso $3.50, latte $4.25, drip $3.00 against a Fayetteville median of $3.50, $5.00 and $3.00 — and are the two strongest menu placements in this evaluation. Scoring below.
Arsaga’s Coffee Roasters is a small, family-owned business located in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas.
Most coffee bars in Fayetteville name one or two plant milks and add a surcharge, usually between fifty cents and a dollar and a half. Arsaga's Church & Center menu boxes its plant-milk offer as a special — "NO CHARGE to SUB" a "HOUSEMADE VEGAN MILK," "coconut cashew or oat" — which is the only house-made plant milk on any menu we captured in the city, and the only one offered free. The methodology asks whether plant milk is treated as a core offering rather than a substitution afterthought; a house-made milk, free, boxed on the menu, is the clearest answer to that question in this evaluation. The evidence is a menu image dated January 2025 linked from the venue's own page, and the page says so.
Across seven Fayetteville menus captured from each café's own site, the median smallest hot latte is $5.00, the median espresso $3.50 and the median drip $3.00. Church & Center's live menu, captured on 20 September 2026, lists espresso at $3.50, a six-ounce cappuccino at $4.00, an eight-ounce latte at $4.25 and eight-ounce drip at $3.00 — at or below the median on every line, from a company that roasts its own coffee and makes its own syrups and sauces. Value in this methodology is price against the documented preparation standard for the local market, and on that measure this venue leads the city.
The Arkansas Times records the founding plainly: "Cary and Cindy Arsaga opened the Fayetteville coffee business in 1992 as Arsaga’s Espresso Cafe on Block Street." The founders are named as co-founder owners on the company's own site today, thirty-four years on, and the company describes itself as "a small, family-owned business located in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas." It roasts at a warehouse roastery in the city on a Diedrich gas-heated drum, names Braden Bull as chief roaster and Jason Arsaga as green-coffee buyer, and lists its single origins by country and region — Guatemala Finca Palestina, Ethiopia Kayon Guji, Costa Rica Central Valley Oxcart — on its own shop. No page we opened identifies an investor, franchise or holding company.
This award's claim is precise: among the Fayetteville coffee businesses we evaluated, Arsaga's Church & Center was selected on the documented signals this methodology treats as relevant to a serious coffee programme — in-house roasting on named equipment inside the city, named origins on current retail, founder ownership documented over three decades, four sites operating with published hours, and a published menu that treats plant milk as a core offering and prices its coffee at or below the local market. It is not a claim that any other shop's coffee is inferior, and popularity metrics — review volume, reader polls, listing-site rankings — are recorded as context and scored nowhere.
Each score rates the strength of the publicly documented evidence we found for that dimension — not first-hand testing. We did not visit this shop or taste its coffee. That is our standard evaluation tier, defined in the methodology; hands-on assessment belongs to CoffeeLab Verified, which this shop has not undertaken.
Overall: 88/100 — Silver. Six equal-weighted dimensions per our venue awards methodology; Silver is the absolute-rubric tier for this score, not a placing against other shops.
"Coffee Shop of the Year" names the candidate our documented evidence and specialist-signal screening selected for full scoring — it is an editorial selection, not the output of scoring every shop in the city against each other. An evidence score does not represent a current sensory rating; it reflects the strength, independence and recency of the documentation available under this programme's rubric.
What Operational Consistency measures: sustained operation and a stable, documented offer over time — longevity, continuity at the awarded address, and documented continuity of operation over time. It is not a measurement of shot-to-shot consistency in the cup, which would require in-person testing we do not perform.
Unlike general review aggregation, we grounded this in independent, named, checkable sources rather than anonymous review excerpts:

— Fayetteville City Lifestyle — The Arsaga's Coffee Legacy, Jan 2024
Key signals: the Arkansas Times's August 2021 account of the company's 1992 founding and its warehouse roastery; the Fayetteville Flyer's August 2025 report naming the company's continuing sites; the city tourism office's description of the Diedrich roaster and the company's locations; a regional lifestyle magazine's 2024 profile of the founding family; and the company's own site — its about page, its locations page and the Church & Center menu. Honesty notes, because they matter more than the signals: no recognised-body cup result names this company in any Good Food Awards list from 2019 to 2026 or in any United States Coffee Championships file we opened; no independent review programme has scored its coffee; and no specialist coffee writer's assessment of this venue could be captured — the one national coffee outlet that has covered the company blocks automated capture, so it is cited nowhere on this page. Coffee Quality is therefore scored in the own-evidence band and cannot leave it on the evidence that exists.
Documented from the city tourism office's coffee guide: "All Arsaga’s coffees are small batch roasted with its Diedrich gas heated roaster." Documented from the company's own site: a chief roaster and a green-coffee buyer named on its about page; on the Church & Center menu, two espressos served side by side, nitro coffee on tap from a named El Salvador lot, and "All syrups and sauces are made in-house, with the exception of sugar-free options." The espresso machine and grinders at Church & Center are not named on any page we could open; an equipment list for the company's drive-thru appears only in a press quotation on the company's own site, which we do not use as a source.
We do not earn commission on café equipment: professional bar machines are not sold through our affiliate programme, and nothing in this section is a product recommendation. If you want home equipment evaluated on the same evidence standard, see our Best Overall Espresso Machine award or Best Overall Burr Grinder award.
Evidenced from the venue's own menu. The Church & Center drink-menu image, dated January 2025 and linked from the venue's page, boxes a special: "NO CHARGE to SUB" — "HOUSEMADE VEGAN MILK" — "coconut cashew or oat." Two plant milks, both house-made, both free to substitute on any drink. The live menu on the same page, captured 20 September 2026, lists a signature latte built on steamed oat milk and offers "milk of choice" on its iced drinks. This is the only house-made plant milk and the only free plant-milk substitution on any Fayetteville menu we captured. The dimension is scored 92 — placed by an independent reviewer from the menu evidence alone, above the programme's calibration anchor of 87 for a café offering two plant milks free — and the placement is adopted as given.

No coffee shop is perfect, and no award page should pretend otherwise. We publish these honestly so you can make an informed decision.
This award names the venue with the strongest documented evidence under a published methodology. It is not a blind tasting and not a sensory ranking: we did not visit, did not taste, and make no claim about what is in the cup today. Every figure on this page rates the strength of documented evidence available for evaluation. We choose documented, repeatable, auditable evidence over unrepeatable impressions, and this disclosure is the cost of that choice.
Arsaga's holds no result from any recognised judging body on any coffee it has produced: we searched the Good Food Awards lists from 2019 to 2026 and the United States Coffee Championships files under every name the company uses and found none. Onyx Coffee Lab holds Good Food Awards coffee wins, each for a single lot, and a co-owner who is the 2020 United States Barista Champion; its Gregg Avenue café is recognised as an Honorable Mention on this page. Coffee Quality for the winner is scored in the own-evidence band and cannot leave it on the evidence that exists.
Six equal dimensions decide this award, and two of them are scored from what a venue's own published menu documents — plant-based milk, and price against the local market. Arsaga's Church & Center holds the strongest menu evidence in this evaluation on both, and on the four evidence dimensions it does not hold the strongest file. We publish that plainly rather than let the total speak for itself. The two menu dimensions were placed by an independent reviewer shown six Fayetteville menus with no names and no sight of our reasoning; the placements were adopted as given.
The house-made, no-charge plant-milk offer that anchors the Plant-Based Milk dimension appears on a drink-menu image dated January 2025 and linked from the venue's own page. The live text menu on the same page, captured 20 September 2026, confirms oat milk in a signature drink and a milk of choice on iced drinks but does not repeat the boxed special. We score the offer as the company publishes it and state the date; if the offer has changed, the placement is restated.
The company's founding in 1992 is documented by the regional press and by the company; the founding café on Block Street has closed. When the Church & Center venue itself opened could not be established from the company's pages or the local press we searched. Operational Consistency is scored on the documented company record with the venue undated, and the score is held below where a documented venue record would place it.
The award is made to Church & Center, not to Arsaga's Coffee Roasters as a company. The company roasts at a separate warehouse roastery in Fayetteville; the methodology permits the company's roasting and sourcing evidence to transfer to a company-owned café supplied exclusively by that roastery, and assesses the venue itself separately. The company's three other sites — the drive-thru and two library cafés — are named on this page and are not separately awarded. The Mill District restaurant closed in October 2025 after the building was sold.
Sprudge has covered this company, but the publisher blocks automated capture, so we could not open that coverage at source and cite none of it. The company quotes it on its own press page; we do not use that page as a route to the quotation. A reader checking our sources should know that a body of national coverage exists which this page deliberately does not lean on.
The Arkansas health-inspection portal returned a server error on every attempt, so no inspection record is claimed for any venue in this evaluation. A Gate 2 adverse-signal search was run on 2026-09-20 for the winner (closures, lawsuits, labour disputes, ownership changes, health findings). It identified the October 2025 closure of the company's Mill District restaurant and the sale of that building, reported by the Fayetteville Flyer; it did not identify a substantiated finding affecting eligibility. This is a statement about what a documented search found on that date, with its gaps stated, not a guarantee that nothing exists.
The field evaluated was the city of Fayetteville's independent, coffee-led venues: thirteen third-wave companies with a staffed café inside the city limits, twelve through the ownership gate, nine evaluated in depth on documented evidence, with every finalist's menu captured from its own sources, and one carried through to a published scorecard. Johnson, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville are separate cities and were not evaluated for this award. Our discovery method finds shops with a public evidence trail; an excellent shop with no web footprint is invisible to it.

Open Status Warning: Operating status confirmed from the company's own current site (captured 20 September 2026: the Church & Center address, phone and hours — Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 3 PM, Sunday 8 AM to 3 PM — and the four current sites) and from the Fayetteville Flyer's August 2025 report that the company continues to operate its drive-thru, Church & Center and its two library cafés. The state's health-inspection portal returned a server error on every attempt, so no inspection record is claimed. We did not independently visit. Always check current hours before visiting — coffee shop status can change. If this shop has closed, please contact us so we can update this page.
CoffeeLabAdvisor does not conduct in-person shop visits. The verdict is based on the company's own published pages and menus, the regional and local press opened at its source, the city tourism office's guide, the awarding bodies' own winner lists (searched, with no result for this company), and seven Fayetteville menus captured from each café's own site or order page. We did not taste the coffee and did not assess current barista technique. We could not open the state inspection register, could not establish when the Church & Center venue itself opened, and could not open the one national coffee outlet that has covered the company. The plant-milk evidence is a January 2025 menu image; the prices are from the live menu of 20 September 2026; if the menu changes, the placements are restated.
Shops that share formal documentation confirming their equipment and sourcing claims (invoices, spec sheets, roaster agreements) carry the CoffeeLab Verified badge. Arsaga's Coffee Roasters has not yet received one — shared documentation would confirm the equipment and roaster lineup firsthand.
Award recognition is not a verdict on any other shop. The following are recognised in their own right, for what we found in their favour.
Recognised for the strongest cup-judged coffee record in CoffeeLabAdvisor's Fayetteville evaluation — Good Food Awards coffee wins in 2019 and 2021, each for a single lot — for co-owner Andrea Allen's 2020 United States Barista Championship title, and for per-lot cost and pricing data published on every coffee it sells. At Gregg Avenue since 2014; the company roasts in Rogers.
Recognised as a roastery café that roasts at the address it serves from — in the Evelyn Hills center since October 2017 under its veteran owner-operator — with four plant milks named on its own order site at the lowest surcharge on any Fayetteville menu we captured.
The winner is the candidate our documented-evidence screening selected for full scoring under the CoffeeLabAdvisor 2026 methodology, and the only candidate scored. Because the rest of the field was not scored, this award is not a quantitative ranking of the city and should not be read as one. An Honorable Mention is a recognition, not a placing: we do not rank the shops we did not score, and nothing on this page should be read as an assessment of any business other than the winner.
