The "fits a 30cm slot" column checks width only. Some narrow machines are deep — the Philips 5400 LatteGo is 25 cm wide but 37 cm deep — so check both dimensions against your actual counter before you buy.

1. Measuring width only. Semi-automatic machines in our catalog average 35 cm deep and bean-to-cup machines 36.2 cm — on a shallow counter with a backsplash, depth is usually what runs out first. Leave a few centimetres behind the machine for cable and ventilation.
2. Forgetting top clearance. Nearly every machine loads water — and on bean-to-cup machines, beans — from the top. Under a standard upper cabinet with about 45 cm (18") of clearance, a machine taller than roughly 35 cm has to be slid out every time you refill it. Add 10–15 cm of working clearance to the height in the chart.
3. Ignoring the grinder. Only three semi-automatics in our catalog include a built-in grinder (the Breville Barista Express, Barista Pro, and De'Longhi La Specialista Arte) — for any other semi-automatic, budget another ~15–25 cm of counter width for a standalone grinder. In our catalog, the Breville Bambino is the narrowest at 16 cm (6.3 inches) wide — its full footprint is 16.0 x 32.0 x 31.8 cm (W × D × H).
Generally yes. Across our catalog, bean-to-cup (super-automatic) machines average 36.2 cm deep versus 35 cm for semi-automatics, because the grinder, brew group and milk system sit in one housing. Several bean-to-cup machines are narrow but deep — always check depth, not just width.
Plan for roughly 10–15 cm of clearance above the machine: most machines load water and beans from the top, so a machine that technically fits under an upper cabinet can be unusable there. If your counter has 45 cm (18") of clearance under the cabinets, machines taller than about 35 cm become awkward to refill in place.
Mostly for stability and for how often you can move it. Light machines (under 6 kg) can shift when you lock in a portafilter; heavier prosumer machines (15 kg and up) are effectively permanent installations. Weight for every machine is in the chart above.
