Automatically collected. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information through standard web analytics tools (Google Analytics 4): pages visited, time on site, referrer URL, browser and device type, and approximate geographic location (city/country level only). This data is aggregated and anonymized — we do not see individual identities from it.
Voluntarily provided. If you subscribe to our email announcements, your email address is collected and stored by our newsletter provider, Substack — not on this site's servers. We do not maintain our own database of subscriber emails.
We do not currently operate user accounts, logins, or password-protected areas, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (such as financial, health, or government-identifier data).
We use minimal cookies: Google Analytics 4 cookies for traffic measurement and essential cookies required for site functionality. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party marketing trackers. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time, though some site features may rely on essential cookies.
Our email announcements are delivered through Substack, which acts as our newsletter service provider and stores subscriber email addresses on our behalf; its handling of your data is described in the Substack Privacy Policy. We use the list only to send our newsletter (award announcements and coffee-industry content you signed up for). Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. We never sell or rent your email address, and we share it with no one other than this service provider. To exercise data rights over your subscription (access or deletion), unsubscribe directly or contact us and we will process the request with Substack.
We use collected information to: operate and improve the Site, measure aggregate usage and understand what content is useful, deliver email content you have requested, and comply with legal obligations. We do not use personal information to profile or market to you beyond the communications you requested.
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only: (a) with Google Analytics 4 for traffic measurement (processed per Google's privacy policy); (b) with our email service provider for newsletter delivery; and (c) as required by law or to protect our legal rights. Affiliate and advertising relationships disclosed in our Terms and Conditions do not involve sharing your personal information with those partners.
Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months. Email subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe or delete it, after which it is removed from our active list within 30 days.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to opt out of analytics, and to unsubscribe from communications. California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) as applicable to our data practices. The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
