Sprudge's Coffee Drinker's Guide to Louisville (2023) called Quills "synonymous with the Louisville specialty coffee scene". Quills has also earned two dedicated Sprudge Build-Outs features: 2016 on the Baxter Avenue flagship this award names, and 2017 on the East Main Street roastery. Independent specialist press is the highest-signal evidence this award weighs, and Quills is the only candidate in this field carrying three separate Sprudge features. An honest limit on that: all three are from one publication, and the most recent is from 2023.

Louisville baristas at Quills voted unanimously in June 2025 to ratify their first union contract, covering nearly 60 workers with 32BJ SEIU. It raised lead-barista starting pay by 23% and barista starting wages by 15%, added four weeks of paid family leave, eliminated wage caps, and improved holiday pay, breaks and workplace protections. Founder and CEO Nathan Quillo said he was "grateful for the baristas and their positive approach to organizing".
