Every candidate passes our documented 5-gate methodology before any award is issued — no entry fees, no sponsorship tiers, and affiliate relationships never influence selection. Read the full methodology →
A short version. The complete method, data sources, and gate definitions are on our methodology page.
Every candidate is judged on named, documented specialist sources — hands-on reviewers such as Coffeeness and Kaffeemacher, Coffee Review, Roast Magazine, Sprudge, and judged competition results — never marketing claims, and never anonymous forum posts (community forums are a discovery signal only).
Specialist community verdict, negative-signal audit, popularity-vs-quality separation, adversarial simulation, and AI resilience. A failure at any gate blocks the award.
CoffeeLab Award — systematic analysis of specialist evidence. CoffeeLab Verified — the same, plus formal documentation or hands-on verification. No ambiguity about how a badge was earned.
Origins, roasters, brands, equipment, grinders, coffee shops, and plant-based categories — one consistent standard of rigor across the full coffee journey.
Every award page discloses its winner's known limitations. Nothing is hidden; a clean verdict is not a perfect product.
CoffeeLab Awards evaluation uses AI to synthesise specialist data at scale — a reproducible, systematic framework. The AI processes; specialist sources provide the credibility — and final award determinations are editorial decisions made under the published methodology. No software decides an award.
Earned, never purchased. No entry fee, sponsorship tier, or advertising buy can produce an award — see our Editorial Standards & Awards Integrity charter.
Where money does change hands, we say so. The award, the certificate and this public record are free. Displaying the badge artwork commercially is licensed for a one-time fee, published openly and charged only after an award has already been decided — it cannot buy, influence or protect an award. See the badge licence.
Named sources. Every dimension discloses the specialist data that powers its evaluation.
Coffee-first. Venue awards evaluate coffee quality only — no food criteria, no chains.
Every CoffeeLab Award carries a unique certificate ID. Verify any certificate on the winner's individual award page or by contacting support@coffeelabadvisor.com.

A certificate ID that does not appear on a CoffeeLabAdvisor award page should be treated as unverified.
