Prime Big Deal Days is Amazon's second Prime-members-only sale of the year, run over 48 hours in October as a fall counterpart to the July Prime Day. For coffee equipment it behaves differently from Black Friday in three ways that matter to a buyer. It is a single-retailer event, so a machine's October price is Amazon's price and nobody else's — the manufacturer's own store and other retailers may or may not match it. It is Prime-gated: the headline prices show only to Prime members for the duration, though some third-party sellers discount independently in the same window. Deal pages push machines because machines are where the big numbers are. For a first espresso setup that is backwards. Grind quality decides more of the cup at entry level than the machine does, and a discounted machine beside a blade grinder makes worse espresso than a modest machine beside a real burr grinder. The practical rule for the event: quality burr grinders are discounted less often than machines, so if a grinder you would buy anyway appears at a real discount in October, take it — a grinder is the part of the setup you keep through two or three machines. The honest answer is that nobody outside Amazon knows in September which machines October will discount, and nobody outside the brands knows what November will. What can be said from the shape of the two events: Black Friday (November 27, 2026) is the larger one, it runs across every retailer including the manufacturers' own stores, and it is where the widest choice of discounted espresso machines has historically appeared. The October event is narrower — one retailer, Prime members only — but it is also earlier, and a discount you can act on in October is not made worse by a hypothetical one in November.
So the decision is not October versus November in the abstract; it is this price versus the reference. If the machine you have already chosen appears in October below its everyday price from a seller you trust, buy it and stop reading deal pages.
