The Bambino is not a Bambino Plus without the badge, and that is the source of most confused troubleshooting. It has no milk jug sensor, so the Plus's milk-temperature fix does not exist here; its steam symptom is weak steam rather than none, with a wand that may be blocked or almost blocked
; and its purge is manual rather than automatic, so water in the drip tray means something different. Everything else it shares with the range.
Descaling appears in the BES450 book as a cause of no water and weak steam, not as housekeeping.
Most bad Bambino advice online is Bambino Plus advice. The two machines share a name and a footprint, and their instruction books share most of one troubleshooting table — but three differences change what can go wrong.
Milk too hot.caused by a jug that is incorrectly positioned. The Bambino has a manual steam wand, so that symptom and that fix do not exist here. If your milk is too hot on a Bambino, you steamed it too long.

The BES450 book does not head this symptom No steam.
the way the Barista Pro's does. It heads it Small steam.
, which is a more accurate description of how a steam fault usually presents on this machine: the wand still hisses, but the milk never gets moving.
It lists the shared causes — the machine has not reached operating temperature, the tank is empty, the tank is not seated, the machine is due to be cleaned and descaled — and then one the other books word differently: Steam wand is blocked or almost blocked.
Almost blocked is the useful part, and it is exactly the state that produces weak steam rather than no steam. A wand that is partially obstructed still passes steam, just not enough of it to build a vortex in the jug, so people conclude the machine is underpowered when it is dirty.
The obstruction comes from milk drawn back into the tip as it cools. Purge for a second before and after every milk drink, and wipe the wand immediately while it is still hot. Our milk frothing guide covers the technique side, which on a manual wand is doing more of the work than the machine is.

among its causes, and its remedy is a piece of practical advice rather than a repair: Turn the steam wand directly on the drip tray or jug before manual purge.
That is the whole thing. The machine needs to shed heat after steaming so it can brew at the right temperature again, and on this model you do it rather than the machine. If the wand is pointing outward when you purge, the water goes on the counter and reads as a leak.
The book's other listed cause is the range-wide one: a water tank that is not fully inserted and locked into position.
Water appearing anywhere other than the drip tray, or reaching the base of the machine, is not covered by this page or by the book's troubleshooting table.
The Bambino has no grinder, so every grind and dose remedy in its book is an instruction about the grinder standing next to it. That makes the pairing more consequential than on an all-in-one — our espresso grinder guide covers what actually changes here.
For espresso that drips or will not come at all, the book's first cause is Coffee is ground too finely.
and its remedy is a single step: Use slightly coarser grind.

is listed separately with four causes: tamped too lightly, ground too coarsely, a blocked basket, and beans that are not fresh. On that last one the book is more specific than most people expect — it asks for beans with a roasted-on date, used within a particular window after it, and pre-ground coffee used within a week of grinding. One symptom stands alone: Water doesn't come through (the machine makes a loud noise).

Unlike the Barista Pro, this machine has no adjustable brew temperature, so there is no setting to raise. What there is instead is thermal mass you are throwing away: a room-temperature portafilter and a cold cup will take more heat out of a double shot than anything else in the process. Run both under the hot water outlet, dry the portafilter, and the difference is immediate.
Dry thoroughly is not fussiness. Water left in the basket wets the grounds before the pump reaches them, which changes the extraction.

Go straight there for a machine that keeps cutting out after cooling, or any sign of water reaching the electrical base rather than the drip tray.
Four verified products relevant to the remedies above, each carrying its listing's own statements. The Bambino is a 54 mm machine. Its instruction book does not mention a tank water filter, so none is carded here — unlike the Barista Pro, whose book does.
