The Rocket Giotto Fast V at a glance
- No built-in grinder — a dedicated espresso grinder is part of the purchase, not an upgrade to it
- 58 mm E61 group: the commercial standard, so baskets, tampers and distribution tools are easy to find
- Same brew platform as the Rocket Mozzafiato Fast V, in a wider case
Does the Rocket Giotto Fast V need a separate grinder?
Yes, and not marginally. The Rocket Giotto Fast V has no grinder in it, and an E61 group on a heat exchanger is built to deliver a stable brew temperature shot after shot. That stability is wasted on a grind that moves between shots, so the grinder decides what this machine is actually capable of.
The Giotto Fast V and the Mozzafiato Fast V are the same machine in two different cases. Both run a 58 mm E61 group off an insulated 1.8 litre heat exchanger at 1550 W, both draw from a 1.8 litre tank, both carry Rocket’s three-year parts and labour warranty, and Rocket prices them the same. The Giotto’s asymmetric side panels make it 34.0 cm wide against the Mozzafiato’s 31.4 cm — that is the difference, and it is a counter-space difference, not a coffee one. If you are weighing the two, our Rocket Mozzafiato Fast V pairing page carries the same shortlist, for the same reason.
On a counter, the Giotto is the wider of the two at 34.0 cm, so measure before you commit to a grinder beside it. A tall single-doser with a small footprint — our catalog puts the Niche Zero at 12.2 cm wide — costs you far less bench than a large flat-burr grinder with a hopper, and on a 58 mm E61 it gives up nothing in the cup. If the run of counter is tight, that is the trade worth making before you trade down on burrs.
What a 58 mm E61 asks of a grinder is fine, repeatable adjustment and low retention. A stepless single-doser removes the step gaps entirely; a large flat-burr grinder gives you fine steps and a grind consistent enough that the E61’s pre-infusion has something even to push through. Either is a better use of the next $500 than any change you can make to the machine.
