CRIMSON is the café arm of Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea, which reports being founded in Columbus in 1991 by Greg Ubert and still owned by its founder. That history is the company's own account; we did not verify it at source. In June 2026 its coffee won twice at the Good Food Awards — Wayfarer Blend and Loud Mouth Blend — two of the fifteen winning coffee entries, from thirteen roasters, chosen by blind tasting from more than 1,200 entries. That is the reason this award sits where it does: it is the only independent sensory evaluation we identified and relied on for this award, made by people who did not know whose coffee they were tasting. It assessed the coffee Crimson roasts — not a drink prepared at the awarded café. Somebody Tasted the Coffee, and Did Not Know Whose It Was
This is the only award in our 2026 programme supported by an independent sensory assessment. The Good Food Awards judge coffee blind: entries are tasted without the judges knowing the roaster. In June 2026 Crimson had three coffees among the finalists in that process and two of them won, from a field of more than 1,200 entries that produced fifteen winning coffee entries across thirteen roasters. That is breadth of competitive performance rather than a single lucky lot — but it remains evidence about the coffee Crimson roasts, not about the drink prepared at this café. We did not taste anything ourselves, and we are not claiming to have. We are pointing at people who did.
A Judged Record, Not a Self-Description
The 2026 result is verifiable in two places we opened ourselves: the Good Food Foundation's own winners listing and Daily Coffee News's report of the same results. Crimson also lists earlier honours — Good Food Awards in 2024, 2020 and 2017, a Golden Bean North America championship in 2019, a Golden Bean World Series world championship in 2025 and a Roast Magazine Macro Roaster of the Year in 2016. Those earlier results appear on the company's own site and we did not verify them at source, so we record them as its own account rather than as evidence we checked.
A Columbus Roaster Since 1991, Still Founder-Owned
Crimson Cup reports being founded in Columbus in 1991 by Greg Ubert and remaining owned by its founder rather than by a group or a parent company. This is the company's own account, and it matters here because our eligibility rule turns on ownership independence rather than on size. The café brand, CRIMSON, opened at Easton Town Center in October 2020 with a diamond-shaped bar and Modbar espresso and pour-over stations. The Good Food Awards blind panel tasted coffee Crimson roasts. It did not taste an espresso pulled at Easton Town Center, and it says nothing about how any individual café prepares the drink. A reader who thinks a roasting award should not decide a café award is making a fair criticism of our method.

Royal Flamingo Coffee holds a strong competition record — Golden Bean medals including gold in espresso (2023) and silver for filter in Melbourne (2024), with current-year coverage in Ohio Magazine. It sits outside this category on a structural rule rather than on quality: its café opened in 2024, opens Wednesday to Sunday from 08:00 to 14:00, and operates inside another business, which is the same ground on which we placed a limited-hours café within a host business outside the standalone-shop category in another city. We publish this because a reader weighing our award should know what it does not cover.
